Shortly be sent periodically to England from the local Schools, as is done in the case of Mauritius and Ceylon, appears to me to be worthy of consideration; the cost is not found to weigh too heavily on the local revenues: I shall be glad if you will consult with your Council as to the details and the best mode of carrying it out if it is considered advisable.
Such a Scholarship scheme, if established, I think nothing need at present be said about the Scholarship being in connexion with the Central School. On further thoughts I doubt whether such connexion is really necessary.

In Wodehouse as Supt of Fire Brigade Recommends (Minutes.) Mr Meade and M. Marsh (in 690g) reported that in future there was to be only one Assistant Superintendent of Fire Brigade, but that suggestions for the general improvement and better efficiency generally of the Brigade were to be submitted to the new Superintendent; and he added that it would be hard to find a competent successor to M. Creagh.
We thereupon asked Sir G. Bowen to report on what improvements he thought feasible, and whom he recommended as Supt. (or 6917) and to defer confirming Mr Wodehouse's appointment till we get Sir G. Bowen's report in answer to our despatch of the 15th instant, but ask meanwhile whether Mr Wodehouse can efficiently perform together the duties of the three offices of Magistrate, Registrar, and Superintendent of Fire Brigade.
Especially as there is to be only one Assistant Superintendent.
